Q. My KVPs have got lost? How can I get a duplicate certificate?
You need to apply for a duplicate certificate to the post office of issue, alongwith the identity slip issued at the time of issue. If you don't have the identity slip, it would be sufficient if you can convince the post master of your being the true owner of the KVPs.
Q. Can my KVPs be encashed only at the post office of issue?
It is generally easier to encash KVPs at the post office of issue. A KVP may also be encashed at any other post office if the officer-in-charge of that post office is convinced, on production of the identity slip or on verification from the post office of issue, that the person presenting the certificates is their true owner.
